Places of interest

Above the town hall, a carillon can be heard and seen in the tower, donated to mark the 750th anniversary of the city of Roermond.

The carillon has 47 bells in four octaves with a total weight of 1700 kg. It can be played both automatically and manually.

In 1995, the carillon was supplemented with a group of important figures who open the gates of the town hall every day at 12 noon.

The group of figures consists of the architect (Dr Cuypers), the tailor, the jester, the papermaker, the bishop (Van Hoensbroeck), the organist, the blacksmith and the princess (Maria Theresa). All the figures have a connection with the history of Roermond.
